A weird mill

A bizarre instrument stands to the right of the panel where the tools are stored. This instrument, a mill, was used to manufacture boxes for the cheese intended for export.

The cylindrical boxes were fabricated here from wood that was carved by a company located in Beauce. The wood came from elm and wild cherry trees. Those pieces of wood would be dropped into a tub of boiling water in order to facilitate the bending. Then, the pieces were wrapped around the drum in order to give it a rounded shape. The end of the box were nailed one above the other, and the bottom was fixed on the body of the box
