ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2021 - Musée de la Vieille Fromagerie Perron

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2021

The Corporation de La vieille fromagerie Perron, which manages the museum, held its AGM on the 9th of February 2021 with presentation of the financial report and the annual operating report, and the election of trustees.

Despite the cancellation of the tourist season 2020 in accord with the public health regulations put in place in Quebec’s museums, the Corporation still managed to come away with a surplus of 14,915$. This was made possible by taking advantage of the various assistance programs developed to help businesses and organisations get through the pandemic and by reducing costs as far as possible.

The annual report outlined how the museum management had taken advantage of the break in the season to make available videos detailing the history of the evolution of the cheese making industry in Quebec and in Lac-Saint-Jean.  A second series of videos detailing regional cheesemaking factories had been put online, and remain available on our Facebook page.

Election of Board Members

Two members of the Board have stepped down. First, Mr. David Garneau, member since 2013 and President since 2016. Mr. Garneau served as a proud representative of the Perron family. Second, Mr. Marc Landry, shareholding director of la Fromagerie Perron (Nutrinor) after four years of service on the board. We are grateful from the bottom of our hearts for their commitment to our institution.

The new Board has the following membership: Ms. Marie-Noel Gagnon, Ms. Julie Grenier, Ms. Caroline Marcoux, Mr. Bernard Généreux, Mr. Guy Hamel, Mr. Richard Garneau, and Mr. Denis Taillon.

A New Mode of Operation

To prevent a second closure in 2021, the organisation developed a new mode of operation with the integration of an audio guide which visitors could download to their cellphones or tablets. This had the objective of reducing physical contact to the very minimum. The project had been made possible through financial aid from the Ministry of Culture and Communications and Tourism Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. A new grant was awarded by SADC Lac-Saint-Jean Ouest to develop a new website.

Nevertheless, the health regulations made it necessary to cancel our cheese making workshops and cheese tasting for the 2021 season. They will be back in place for the 2022 season.
